Boys U8's Win The Harrogate & District League Final in only our first season together.

Sunday 29th April - Wigton Moor JFC Boys Under 8's win a nail-biting end of season gala at Kirk Deighton JFC near Wetherby. Taking two even teams into the final day gala, all the boys played really well. Both teams were unlucky in some games and should have won some earlier rounds. The size of the pitch threw us at first until we were told this was the wrong one and should have been for 9-a-side. Both teams drew the first games 0-0 against high quality opposition, but really should have won. Then team A got into their stride and recorded wins of 4-1 and 3-0 in their final games to win the group and make it through to the semi's. Team B were a little more unlucky as a narrow 1-0 defeat, and a 0-0 last game meant that they didn't make it through in spite of a 3-0 win as well. However all the boys stayed around to watch their club mates in the semi.
As the matches were only 5 mins long, scoring was difficult. The semi ended 0-0 and went to penalty kicks. All players from both teams, including the goalkeepers scored and in the end only one poor lad from the opposition missed and had to be consoled.
The final was also a tense affair vs Killinghall Nomads. They scored from an excellent free kick but left Wigton with time to get it back. A tremendous shot from outside the box by Billy Naylor brought an equaliser and once again the match went to penalties. This time whilst our boys were clinical, 3 of the other team missed theirs so the final was won before the 5th kick needed to be taken.
Everyone celebrated and the boys took a trophy home each. All the matches were played in a superb spirit and the boys were extremely well behaved, representing the club well. The parents are all very supportive and positive which help enormously.
Thanks to everyone who helped out all season long and we're already looking forward to next year as champions.
